I don't have much to add to Roger Labbe's review of the French polishing class with Marshall Brune in his father's (R.E. Brune) shop in Evanston, IL. I took this class last week and I'm very happy with the experience. Robbie O'Brien was in the class as well, and it was great getting to know him a bit. I imagine he'll chime in before long. I'm a complete noob to finishing and relatively inexperienced in building, so I thought I might be a little intimidated but that wasn't the case at all. Now I'm confident that I'll be able to do a good job when I go to finish my first guitar, and I won't be fumbling around wondering what I'm doing wrong. And I'm sure it won't take me a month to complete. Their method is so much simpler and faster than the other ones I've read about online or seen on video. Marshall's a good teacher and he really knows his stuff, and it's invaluable being able to have someone correct you while you're doing the process, to let you know if you're using too much or too little pressure, too much oil, etc... I'm pretty ignorant of the classical and flamenco guitar world, but it was still very fun to be able to check out their personal guitar collection and I learned a bunch. I can't imagine any other time in my life where I'll be able to inspect a Torres firsthand. It was also interesting to see evidence of different pore fills and how they've held up over time. I found out about the class because of Roger's review on this forum, so I just wanted to echo his recommendation for the class. |

Thank you very much for the review Jon. I greatly enjoyed having you and Robbie in the shop for the class, and was quite pleased with the results that both of you got. Again, if you guys have questions, I'm always a phone call away and willing to help. |

Sorry about that, I use that handle on most of the forums I'm on. I actually got questioned about that the first day of class :) I'm Jon Kendall. I'll see about adding that to my signature. |

I'll vouch for Jon. Don't worry guys, he is on our team. I will also vouch for his comments about Marshall Brune's class. I really enjoyed it. Not only do you have the opportunity to learn Brune's french Polish technique but you can actually play a guitar that Segovia played and inspect a Torres as well as other guitars first hand. It was a great experience and I recommend it to all who are interested. |
